The League of Public Servants, UNTV Cup has expanded its avenue for participating teams to give more for charity.
Coinciding the season 8 finals series between the AFP Cavaliers and DENR Warriors, UNTV Cup has added the 3×3 basketball in support of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas’ national program for the half-court play.
This 3×3 format of basketball is now included as sporting event at 2020 Olympic Games.
The 8 teams which did not make the Final 4 are the participants of this year’s 3×3 tounament. These are PhilHealth Plus, GSIS Furies, SSS Kabalikat, PNP Responders, Ombudsman Graftbusters, Malacañang-PSC Kamao, PITC Global Traders and Department of Agriculture Food Masters.
The 8 teams were paired thru drawing of lots.
In the first game, PhilHealth Plus defeated GSIS Furies, 19-15.
Kenneth Emata led the team with 7 points combined with 12 points from his team mates combined.
In the 2nd game, the SSS Kabalikat emerged victorious over PNP Responders, 13-10.
Hot shooting Carlito Quiambao racked up 8 points to lead the SSS while Rolly Serrano poured 9 points for PNP.
During the 3rd game, the Ombudsman Graft Busters shocked the Malacañang-PSC by a point, 12-11.
Bernzon Franco took charged of the 6 points for the Graft Busters while John Michael Jimenez produced 8 points.
And in the final pair, the PITC Global Traders overpowered the Agriculture Food Masters, 14-9.
Rod William Vassallo made 7 points for PITC while Sherwin Silva scored the same for Agriculture Food Masters.
Winners advanced to the semifinals and will settle it on Monday, March 9, 2020 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The winners in the semis will pit against each other in the finals on the same day.
The 3×3 champion team will receive P100,000 for their chosen beneficiary while 2nd placer gets P50,000.
