NHA settles for 3rd place at UNTV Cup Season 8

NHA Builders’ Alvin Vitug #9 hustled on both side of the court from scoring to defending to rebounding to help his team get the 3rd place for their chosen beneficiary, the NHA Provident Fund.

The National Housing Authority basketball team, NHA Builders, proved that they are a mainstay at UNTV Cup Final 4 club this season and not yet ready to give up the 3rd seed as they beat the two-time champion Judiciary Magis, 75-67, on the battle for 3rd last Sunday, March 1, 2020 at the Paco Arena, Manila.

NHA started strong in the first quarter with great ball movement and tough defense. Alvin Vitug and two-time MVP Antonio Lustestica combined for 15 points, all came from beyond the arc and a total of 9 assists.

Judiciary Magis bounced back in the 2nd quarter outscoring their Builders. The attack was led by Warren Ybañez, Regelito Malinao and Jon Bergonio, combined for 16 points.

In the 3rd period, both teams came up strong on both ends of the court producing 19 points each. In the final period, John Dizon, Alvin Vitug and Marvin Mercado came up big to give the Builders the win.

“Nagkaroon lang sila ngayon ng teamwork kasi yun ang pinaka-importante sa lahat. Sabi ko sa kanila, fumocus lang kayo at yung teamwork ang magpapanalo sa atin,” NHA Builders Head Coach Bennett Palad said.

Judiciary Magis’ main man Chester Tolomia, despite of nursing a knee injury, showed up for their final battle of the season to help his team get the 3rd place for Supreme Court’s charity endeavor.

As for the Judiciary Magis, despite of loss to NHA, they are still happy with what they have achieved this season and vows to improve more next season.

“Siguro talagang double effort kami dahil medyo umangat ang ranking namin, nag-number 4 kami, sa tingin ko kulang pa practice namin [kaya] dadagdagan pa namin…nagpapasalamat ako sa supporters ng Judiciary lalo na kay Kuya Daniel na walang sawang sumusuporta sa UNTV Cup. Salamat Kuya,” Judiciary Magis Head Coach Joey Yabut expressed.

Dubbed as the Liga ng Public Servants, UNTV Cup, aims to promote camaraderie, sportsmanship and charity among the participating government agencies through basketball as conceptualized by its founder Dr. Daniel Razon 7 years ago. Each team gets to choose a charity institution as their beneficiary.

NHA Builders’ chosen beneficiary, the NHA Provident Fund will receive P1,000,000 donation this season.

While 4th placer Judiciary Magis will provide P500,000 for the employees of Supreme Court who are severely affected by calamities.

As for the UNTV Cup 3X3 pocket tournament, Philhealth Plus, SSS Kabalikat, Ombudsman Graft Busters, PITC Global Traders will advance to the semifinals round coinciding the Game 2 Finals match of AFP Cavaliers and DENR Warriors.
