DENR defeats NHA at UNTV Cup 1st elimination round ender

Posted on: November 14th, 2019

The rookie team DENR Warriors had swept all their opponents in Group B after their win over the NHA Builders, 87-84, as their last game at the first-round eliminations of UNTV Cup.

With only 9.4 seconds left in the final period, the NHA’s Waldemar Tibay tied the score at 84 via a clutch three-point shot.

But this was answered by a winning buzzer-beater 3 of Paul Parreño with an assist from Melvin Bangal.

“Two seconds yata nung tinira ko […] sayang naman yung opportunity although may bantay pero sige bahala na, eh pumasok, suwerte. Thank God,” DENR Warriors’ Paul Parreño said.

Hailed as Best Players of the Game were Archie Gamboa with 15 points and Ed Rivera with 17 points.

With this victory, DENR Warriors moved to the 2nd round with the same 5-0 win-loss record with the AFP Cavaliers.

Head Coach DENR Warriors Dir. Norlito Eneran said, “It was a very hard fight, talagang na test ang patience naming, yung mental toughness namin. Buti na lang before the game kinausap kami ni Secretary Roy Cimatu. Sinabi niya na, ‘Good luck gawin you lang lahat ng kaya. Sigurado magtatagumpay tayo.”’

Meanwhile, NHA Builders was led by Antonio Lustestica Jr with 27 points, Alvin Vitug with 22 points, and Marvin Mercado 16 points.

In the other games, UNTV Cup Season 5 Champion PNP Responders ended the team’s drought as they claimed their first win of the season against GSIS Furies with score 94-63.

With this win, PNP forced a do-or-die match with Judiciary Magis on Sunday, November 17, 2019.

Whichever team wins advances to the 2nd round elimination.

“Hopefully, makapasok kami next round,” Coach Eric Samson said.

Concurrently, the Agriculture Food Masters gave SSS Kabalikat no chances as they defeated them with final score of 99-79.
