AFP looks to extend UNTV Cup Finals

The AFP Cavaliers, being undermanned in this finals series, AFP’s healthy big man Ezer Rosopa needs to double its effort to fill up the space left by Wilfredo Casulla and Winston Sergio.

The injury-stricken AFP Cavaliers are looks to bounce back on Game 2 of UNTV Cup Season 8 Finals to even the series and extend it to a knock out Game 3 against the DENR Warriors.

In the past, the AFP Cavaliers had overcame a 0-1 drawback and won championships in seasons 2 and 4 both against the PNP Responders; also the soldiers have been successful in all of their 3 finals appearances in the League of Public Servants.

But this season, they face much bigger challenges.

Most of the AFP Cavaliers’ key players are nursing injuries. Its power forward Wilfredo Casulla Jr has a shoulder fracture from a recent motorcycle accident. It’s tower of power Jeffrey Quiambao has a recurring shoulder injury. The Bullet Boyet Bautista is not in 100% as well as veteran playmaker Eugene Tan who both having knee problems.

AFP’s odds in this series is not good due to the young and dynamic core of the DENR Warriors which could match up with their deep line up.

Being a three-time champion of UNTV Cup, the AFP Cavaliers will rely heavily on their finals experience. They know how to battle adversity as their opportunity to help more provides inspiration and motivation to the entire team.

The Cavaliers have chosen the AFP Educational Benefit System Office (EBSO) which facilitates the scholarship of the dependents of the slain men in uniform.

While the DENR Warriors have designated the Environmental Heroes’ Foundation, Inc (EHFI) as their beneficiary which helps the family of slain forest rangers and coastal patrollers.

A total of P10-Million cash donations will be given to these charity organizations, tax free.

The Champion gives P4,000,000 for their beneficiary and P2,000,000 for the 2nd placer.

In the 3X3 games, PhilHealth Plus, SSS Kabalikat, Ombudsman Graft Busters, and PITC Global Traders will face each other after they eliminated the other UNTV Cup teams in a knockout format.

The champion of this pocket tournament will donate P100,000 to the charity of their choice and P50,000 for 2nd placer.

The gates of the Araneta Coliseum will open at 4pm to serve the UNTV Cup fans with PhilHealth setting up an information desk to accommodate inquiries and membership concerns. The Social Security System and PAG-IBIG Fund will also be there with info desk and online verification of membership.

Before the Finals game there will be awesome performances by artists like Gidget Dela Llana, Magnus Haven and BMPI Talent Center’s The Wishfuls and Rhea Basco to rock the Big Dome.

Darren Espanto will set the court on fire with his amazing halftime show in the finals game.

This night is going to be memorable to all participating teams as the culmination of the season because of the awarding ceremony for the teams and individuals.

The teams’ chosen beneficiaries will be awarded their hard-earned grants with the team that represented them throughout this 7-month long 8th season of UNTV Cup.

Dubbed as the Liga ng Public Servants, UNTV Cup, aims to promote camaraderie, sportsmanship, and charity among the participating government agencies through basketball as its founder Dr. Daniel S. Razon has conceptualized 7 years ago. Each team gets to choose a charity institution as their beneficiary.

League’s major sponsor is Bro. Eli Soriano, the host of the Ang Dating Daan program and the overall servant of the Members Church of God International.

Telecast and Social Media broadcasts of Finals game 2 will start at 9 PM tomorrow at UNTV channel.
